CSIR-STEPRI Participates in RAIA Grantee Orientation Workshop in Nairobi
The CSIR-Science and Technology Policy Research Institute participated in the Grantee Orientation Workshop for the Climate-Induced Fiscal Risks and Adaptation Expenditure Efficiency in Ghana: Implications for Sustainable Public Finance" under the Raising Adaptation Impact and Ambition (RAIA) initiative, held in Nairobi, Kenya, from 4th -5th June 2026.
The workshop was organised by the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), with funding from Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) under the Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) Research Programme. It brought together 12 grantee teams from six African countries to strengthen collaboration, promote shared learning, and enhance the impact of climate adaptation research across the continent.
CSIR-STEPRI was represented by Dr Aaron Alesane, Principal Investigator; Dr Mavis Akuffobea-Essilfie, Gender Equality and Social Inclusion expert; and Dr Crystal Bubune Letsa, Postdoctoral Fellow. The team is collaborating with Prof. Amos Kabo-Bah of the University of Energy and Natural Resources and Dr Eric Amoo Bondzie of the University of Cape Coast.
At the workshop, the team presented its project titled “Climate-Induced Fiscal Risks and Adaptation Expenditure Efficiency in Ghana: Implications for Sustainable Public Finance.” The presentation highlighted the need to align fiscal planning with climate resilience in order to safeguard long-term public finance, improve the efficiency of adaptation expenditure, and strengthen Ghana’s capacity to respond to climate-induced fiscal risks.
The RAIA project provides an important platform for advancing policy-relevant research on climate adaptation, public finance, gender equality and social inclusion, and sustainable development. Through this work, CSIR-STEPRI and its partners will contribute evidence to support more resilient, inclusive and sustainable public finance systems in Ghana and beyond.
CSIR-STEPRI expresses its appreciation to SEI, UNEP and FCDO for convening the workshop and supporting collaborative adaptation research in Africa.
