Conducting a Readiness Needs Assessment (RNA) for the Green
Climate Fund in Ghana || CSIR-STEPRI, Accra, 27th January, 2026
At the Inception Workshop of the Readiness Needs Assessment for the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in Ghana, practitioners, policymakers, and technical experts convened at the CSIR Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (CSIR-STEPRI) on Tuesday, 27 January 2026.
The workshop, organised by CSIR STEPRI, focused on taking a clear and practical look at what effective readiness for GCF support truly requires. The engagement went beyond formal presentations. Through participatory net mapping and focused breakout sessions, participants held open discussions to identify existing gaps, clarify institutional roles, examine influence, and strengthen collaboration across stakeholders. These sessions provided grounded insights into how readiness processes work in practice, not just in policy documents.
One key message stood out. GCF readiness is not simply a documentation or compliance exercise. It is a coordination challenge that requires strong alignment across institutions, sectors, and decision-makers to ensure timely and effective access to climate finance.
CSIR STEPRI extends appreciation to the African Union, the Continental Africa Water Investment Programme, the Green Climate Fund, Global Water Partnership Africa, and the Ministry of Finance, as well as all participants whose contributions helped shape the discussions and define priorities for the next phase.
With a shared understanding established and commitment reaffirmed, the foundation for the Readiness Needs Assessment process has been laid. The work now moves forward with clarity, collaboration, and purpose.
