Launch of Ghana National Research Fund (GNRF) || 16th April, 2026

A New Era for Research and Innovation in Ghana

marked a significant milestone in Ghana's journey towards a knowledge-driven economy with the official launch of the Ghana National Research Fund (GNRF) under the theme "Resetting Ghana: Financing Research for National Transformation."

Established under Act 1056 (2020), the GNRF provides a sustainable mechanism for mobilising and investing resources in research, innovation, technology development, and scientific advancement across sectors. The Fund aims to place research at the heart of Ghana's economic transformation, industrial competitiveness, improved public services, and long-term prosperity.

The Fund's strategic focus for 2026-2030 spans five national missions, including food systems transformation, health innovation and biosecurity, climate and environmental sustainability, governance and social systems, and digital and industrial transformation.

As a key stakeholder in Ghana's research ecosystem, the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) is represented on the Governing Board through its Director-General, Prof. Paul P. Bosu, who joins other distinguished members in providing strategic oversight and stewardship for the implementation of the Fund.

The launch, graced by H.E. President John Dramani Mahama, underscores the nation's commitment to positioning research and innovation as strategic assets for sustainable development.

This is more than the establishment of a funding mechanism; it is an investment in Ghana's future competitiveness, productivity, and resilience.

Congratulations to the leadership of the GNRF, the Ministry of Education, the research community, and all partners committed to advancing science, innovation, and national development.
