Our Establishment
In 1988, the Institute was established as a Technology Transfer Centre (TTC) with the mandate of addressing policy issues relating to the transfer of technology

TTC was renamed the Policy Research and Strategic Planning Institute (PORSPI) and set as a wing of the then Ministry of Industries, Science, and Technology (MIST), to provide technical backstopping to the Ministry. The current name, Science and Technology Policy Research Institute (STEPRI) was adopted in 1994, and in 1996 it was integrated into the CSIR organisational structure.

The Institute has been very instrumental in stimulating public policy awareness for the advancement of national capacity in areas such as climate change, green economy, biotechnology, and information and communication technology (ICT).

As a government agency, the Institute conducts research to influence the formulation and implementation of national policies. It also works with donors, and other stakeholders, who have contributed immensely to the realisation of its mandate areas, to stimulate the desired development of Ghana and beyond. Some of the key donors and development partners include the European Commission (EC), the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of Germany (BMBF), and the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA).

Accomplishment
Achievements & Awards
STEPRI in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment Science and Technology (MEST) prepared the National S&T Policy Document. It also facilitated the formulation of the framework for the implementation of a new structure for the management of S&T in Ghana.
